Retail Sales in the Elizabeth City Micropolitan Area

Pasquotank, Perquimans and Camden Counties comprise the Elizabeth City Micropolitan Area.

Retail sales in the Elizabeth City Micropolitan Area jumped 12.1% to $567 million in FY 2016 – an all-time high. The record sales were powered by a $48.2-million increase in Pasquotank County, a $7.3-million increase in Perquimans and a $5.9-million increase in Camden. The stellar increase compared to a 6.5% increase in retail sales statewide. Construction of the $400-million Amazon Wind Farm US East – the first utility-scale wind farm in the Southeast – and the 158,000 square-foot Tanglewood Pavilions shopping center were the main drivers of the increase.
